Ryan's 30th Surprise Party

Wow...after about a year leave of the blogging world, I have returned to report the latest. After a month of secrets and perhaps a few lies here and there, we managed to keep Ryan in the dark about his surprise 30th birthday party last Saturday and yes...he was surprised!

Overall, the evening was a success thanks to everyone who showed up and to our hosts Max and Diane (Ryan's mom and stepdad). I tend to always have an eclectic mix of people and am never sure how things will go but luckily we have great friends to ease those fears...I am glad I have no harboring secrets to keep from Ryan anymore!

Things I love...

I decided to post a few pictures that I love. The Almond Blossom painting by Van Gogh is a favorite of mine. The others are just some pictures I have found and kept in my files because they are really unique and beautiful. I've always been drawn to chandeliers and lamps and want a house full of them. I love eclectic, warm styles and...I really love butterflies!

For those of you who know Ryan, know he is severely afraid of heights. I, on the other hand am not and would really like to go skydiving. So...if anyone is up for a little adventure this summer let me know because I would love to go but think it would be more fun to do it with another person so I won't be the only one peeing my pants right before jumping out of the plane!

Also, I am beginning Krav Maga classes(mix between martial arts and self defense) in February and am trying to find a partner. So...let me know if you are interested!

The latest...

So...I'm not great at keeping up-to-date with posting but after a few nags about posting more from some unnamed individuals, I will try to keep more current or at least post more than once a month. Here's the latest:

I went with the cheaper version of the PB table I had been eyeing and bought a similar one from less than half the price. Let's be honest....not the best time to be buying expensive pieces of furniture and if I'm being completely honest I should probably be buying food storage in case the 2nd depression hits...so....I settled and bought some emergency supplies and the cheaper table. Now I can complete all my projects well fed!

Ryan and I got our Christmas tree last Saturday. Apparently tree folk don't start selling them until after Thanksgiving because we searched for one before Thanksgiving and were shut down again and again and again! But now it's up and our home smells of pine. Our cat loves to sleep under the tree. I think she is getting in touch with her outdoorsy side.

I went to Twilight...I decided not to subject Ryan to the film so I went with friends...well, a friend...as the rest of the crew bailed....yes, that's right, bailed. Anyway, one friend didn't bail and told me she would meet me there. I decided to get to the theater early and save a place in line. Basically, I was chillin by myself with all the 14 year olds and their moms when I spotted a group of my students who happened to be in the very front of the line and after exchanging waves, I decided I was either the biggest loser ever or completely awesome. I'm thinking loser! Anyway...the movie was cheesy but good and Rob Pattinson was pretty hot, second to Ryan of course.

That's it for now. Happy holiday's everyone!

She made the Seasons...by Kristin heading at the top of my page in just a few minutes of spare time....not that she has much! I posted a few items of her work above.

Twilight

One of my favorite places is the bookstore and every time I have gone over the past few months, I have been magnetically drawn to the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyers. I have managed to get out of the store Twilightless until about three weeks ago when I had a weak moment, broke down and bought the first two books.

This past weekend, Saturday to be exact, I decided to open Twilight. If only I had known what I was getting myself into. Forbidden Vampire/Human Love!!! I have been sucked in and finished both books in three days and have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the remainder two books. I was seriously contemplating attending the midnight premiere before opening night on November 21st and then shook myself into reality when I realized I would be sharing the theater with 100 of my students. Realizing the age difference I decided I can wait an extra couple days to see the movie. Is it bad that I am secretly hoping Ryan is closet vampire with a dangerous past?

I have never really been into fantasy or futuristic type topics but I have always had an attraction to vampires and wicca which would explain some of my dating history. If you're wondering if you should still hang out with me after reading this post...I think this is as weird as I get...I hope.

Road Trip 2008

Since college, I have taken a road trip to California each summer and let me tell you......actually, I better keep some of those experiences to myself. Since Ryan and I hooked up in 2006 we have taken 3 road trips to Cali. We just got back from our third trip: First stop...Fresno, to see Ryan's dad and crash after a long drive and countless hours listening to old school 90's rap, country and my IPOD "workout" and "mellow" favorites! The next day we left for Pasadena to see the Fresno State vs. UCLA game...of course we were rooting for Fresno and boy did we see a good game despite the 98+ temp. which caused 2nd degree burns on my face. I'm not joking...we forgot the sunblock and I wasn't about to buy the travel size one at the hotel for $17. Later I wished I had forked out the cash because my face, specifically my upper lip, was jacked up and in serious pain the rest of the trip. On a good note, Fresno won 36 to 31.

After the game, we headed to Murrietta (not sure if I'm spelling that right) near San Diego to see my old roomie Rachel, her husband Cameron and their new little adorable baby girl. It was great catching up and I loved getting a dose of Rachel who always makes me laugh and puts a smile on my face. After two nights in Pasadena, we headed to Santa Barbara for the day and just hung out on the beach and the pier. I love Santa Barbara. It is so peaceful and serene and I love all the artwork along the beach. Next we headed back to Fresno to get a good sleep, do laundry and hang out more with Ryan's dad.

Fourth stop, Yosemite National Park. Yosemite was really beautiful. If you ever go, go during the spring because by the fall all the waterfalls are all dried up. We camped two nights in Upper Pines campground. Ryan was hoping a bear would wander its' way into our campsite. I on the other hand, was so freaked out about bears and other wild critters roaming near by that I didn't go to the bathroom all night therefore getting no sleep. The second night I slept with my contacts in so at least I could see the bear about to eat me on my way to the bathroom instead of being blindsided. We spent one day at Bass lake and rented jet ski's which was a lot of fun because we pretty much had the lake all to ourselves!

Fifth stop, Lake Tahoe. This was probably my favorite part of the trip. Lake Tahoe is really serene and charming. I may have a slight addiction to slot machines so we gave ourselves a slot machine budget and on our way up to our room one night we put $20 into a 5 cent slot and walked away with over $500. If only that happened every time. By the time we left we pretty much broke even and left about $50 more than what we started with.

Finally, we headed home and were ready to give our cat Tabby a big hug and sleep in our own bed. There truly is no place like home!

First Entry!

I have finally decided to join the blogging world as I have discovered it is a simple and convenient way to keep in contact with and up-to-date with family and friends. If you know me I'm not much of a phone talker, texter or emailer so this blogging craziness is a great way to keep in touch (but feel free to call, text or email me anytime).

So...the up-to-date part. I am living in Oregon with my ESPN lovin, FOX news watchin, hunk y husband Ryan of two years this October. I am a high school foods and nutrition teacher and do a little drug education on the side. Admittedly, I have a pretty great life and feel blessed to have so many fun and caring family and friends around me.

I love to travel, read, camp, river raft, and chill in my pj's all day with movies and nothing to do. Ryan is from Fresno and is truly the most devoted and quite bluntly obsessed football fan...specifically, Fresno State fan I have ever come in contact with. He literally watched football last Saturday from 7:30 am until 11p.m. Below are a few pictures of Ryan and I and some of the adventures we have had. (Utah Christmas, Wedding '06, White Salmon River Trip, San Francisco '07, Four Wheeling, Lovin the Cruise Waitstaff, Western Caribbean, Casino Fun)
